Dong's Expertise

I am very familiar with the Triangle area, having lived, studied, and worked here for many years. I earned both a Master’s degree in statistics and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University. During my master’s program, my research on photonic crystals was published in a top-tier journal. I continued to advance my contributions throughout my PhD and post-doctoral work, deepening my expertise and expanding the impact of research. My recognized proficiency in photonic crystals also led to invitations to serve as a reviewer for several prestigious journals in related areas, allowing me to further engage with and contribute to the field’s ongoing advancements.

Before retiring, I first worked as a statistician analyst at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by a bio statistician at Duke University. These positions not only gave me the opportunity to apply my expertise in data analysis to groundbreaking research, but also allowed me to collaborate with leading academics and professionals in the region. Working at these prestigious institutions deepened my understanding of the local community and its unique dynamics, strengthening my connection to the Triangle area.

A few years ago, I launched a YouTube channel, dong_lectures, where I created a series of educational videos on statistics. The goal was to help non-statisticians and junior statisticians better grasp fundamental statistical concepts. Drawing on my extensive background as a statistician, I carefully designed these lectures to simplify complex topics and make them easier to understand. I broke down numerous concepts and points of knowledge into twenty concise and clear courses, supplemented by simple yet representative common examples, making statistics more accessible to beginners.

In addition to my teaching efforts, I honed my expertise as a data scientist while working at a mortgage bank. During my time there, I developed statistical models and machine learning algorithms to assess mortgage risks. This experience not only sharpened my analytical skills but also allowed me to work with large datasets, uncover meaningful patterns, and make data-driven decisions that directly influenced financial outcomes. These combined experiences have equipped me with a deep understanding of the theoretical and practical applications of statistics,  as well as data science and the U.S. housing market.

My background brings a unique perspective to real estate. I understand how to leverage data to evaluate market trends, property values, and economic indicators, giving my clients a competitive advantage. Whether it is identifying emerging market opportunities or assessing the best time to buy or sell, I provide insights that help guide buyers and sellers through the complexities of the real estate landscape. Dong's Charity

I work with Giving Tree Realty, a brokerage built on the “Foundation of Giving.” Our mission extends beyond real estate by actively supporting the community. For every home sold, a donation is made to a charity chosen by the agent. My chosen charity is the Salvation Army of Wake County.

The Salvation Army is a global Christian organization founded in 1865 by William Booth in London, England. It serves as both a church and a charitable institution, with a mission to meet human needs without discrimination, guided by Christian principles. The Salvation Army of Wake County, located at 1863 Capital Blvd Raleigh, NC, plays an essential role in supporting individuals and families in need across the Triangle area. The branch offers a broad range of services, including:

  • Emergency Shelter for the Homeless: This service offers temporary housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Along with a safe place to sleep, the shelter provides support services aimed at helping clients regain stability and transition toward long-term housing solutions.​

  • Project CATCH (Community Action Targeting Children who are Homeless): This program is focused on providing resources and support to homeless children and their families. It aims to stabilize their living conditions, ensure access to education, and provide services that help children thrive despite challenging circumstances.

  • Hunger Relief Programs: Recognizing the importance of addressing food insecurity, the Salvation Army operates food pantries and meal programs. These services ensure that families have access to nutritious food and offer individuals a place to receive warm meals. The program promotes dignity by allowing clients to select food items based on their preferences.

  • Disaster Response Efforts: The Salvation Army is also involved in emergency disaster response, providing immediate assistance to those affected by natural disasters or crises. Services include offering food, shelter, and emotional support to help disaster victims recover and rebuild their lives.

  • Red Shield Club: This initiative is designed for at-risk youth, offering various programs like after-school activities, summer camps, and athletic opportunities. The Red Shield Club provides a safe environment where children can engage in recreational activities, receive tutoring, and participate in community service, fostering personal growth and community involvement.

  • Angel Tree Program: A special holiday program that provides gifts and clothing to children from low-income families. Each year, families in need can register their children, and local donors, businesses, and volunteers help fulfill their wish lists. The program ensures that children who might not otherwise receive gifts can experience the joy of Christmas.

Dong's Commission

When it comes to assisting clients with buying or selling a home, I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to brokerage fees. I recognize that every client has unique needs and preferences—some prefer to delegate the entire real estate process to the broker, while others may want to be more involved. To accommodate these varying expectations, I prefer to discuss fees with each client and arrive at a mutually acceptable arrangement, which is based on the complexity of the transaction and the level of service required.

My primary goal is to help clients navigate the real estate market in the NC Triangle area, answer their questions about real estate investments, and build long-term, trusted partnerships. As I continue to gain experience in the industry, I am committed to offering exceptional value to my clients. To that end, I am willing to offer a flat-fee service to my first three clients, ensuring they receive top-tier service at a competitive rate. This approach allows me to grow my practice while delivering personalized and flexible solutions that meet my clients' specific needs.
